Muslim Parents Drag UI, ISI, Others To Court Over Hijab

Some Muslim Parents of International School, Ibadan, (ISI) have dragged the Management of the College to the Court demanding for the fundamental human rights of their wards in using Hijab. The suit, No: M/706/2018 filed on behalf of the 14 applicants by Messrs Abdulkareem, Fajimite and Co. at Oyo state High Court was on Monday served on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Idowu Olayinka. Others who received their services were the Deputy Vice Chancellor, (Academic), Prof. Adeyinka Aderinto, Chairman, Board of Governors of ISI and Mrs Phebean Olowe, Principal, ISI, University of Ibadan. President Muhammadu Buhari as well as Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar will on Sunday Nov. 18, lead prominent Islamic leaders to Ibadan for the fund raising of N5bn International Islamic Centre for the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN). Fuel supply threatened as oil workers join strike The supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country are under threat as the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Association have joined the strike ordered by the Nigeria Labour Congress. The NLC on Wednesday directed all its members and affiliate unions to commence a nationwide strike on Thursday, following the failure of a meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment , Chris Ngige, in Abuja on Wednesday , to produce the expected outcome. The NLC President , Ayuba Wabba , said the industrial action would commence due to the refusal of the Federal Government to reconvene the meeting of the Tripartite National Minimum Wage Committee to enable it to conclude its work. A NUPENG spokesperson, Mr Adamson Momoh, told one of our correspondents on Thursday, “ We are part of the United Labour Congress; so , any decision that they take, we will abide by it. ”

APC NWC disqualifies Shittu over NYSC scandal, postpones primary The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has disqualified the Minister of Communications , Adebayo Shittu, from contesting Saturday’ s Oyo State APC governorship primary. Shittu was disqualified for failing to participate in the mandatory one year National Youth Service scheme at the time he graduated from the university. He was 25 years old at the time and was eligible to participate . The party, however , cleared Lagos State Governor , Akinwumi Ambode , and his two challengers, Obafemi Hamzat and Jide Sanwo -Olu. This was contained in a report of the screening committee released in Abuja on Thursday night. The list, which had a state by state breakdown of those cleared, also listed Chief Christopher Alao Akala , as one of those cleared to contest in Oyo State . The NLC said the strike was called due to the refusal of the federal government to reconvene the meeting of the tripartite national minimum wage committee to enable it conclude its work. Labour reminded Nigerians that the 14-day ultimatum issued to the federal government expires September 26 and urged them to be prepared. Mr. Joe Ajaero, President, United Labour Congress (ULC), said this in a communiqué issued after its meeting on Monday in Lagos. In what looked like a movie, the minister of health Professor Isaac Adewole while fielding questions from journalists about the welfare of the practice in the country and the fate of medical doctors that just graduated made a statement that has got the country talking. The minister said in a video that definitely not all the medical students will be accommodated in the practice as some of them can go into farming or tailoring.
