COVID-19: Buhari Mourns 20 Doctors, Says Govt Will Prioritise Health Workers’ Welfare

  President Muhammadu Buhari has saluted the sacrifices of the doctors who were killed by COVID-19 in parts of the country. In a statement on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari gave an assurance that the welfare of doctors and other health workers would be a priority for his administration. He also sent his condolence to the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) over the death of the doctors due to the pandemic, noting that the sacrifices made by the frontline medical workers were appreciated. “The death of our frontline health workers in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic is particularly sad because these professionals risk their own lives in order to save others,” the President was quoted as saying. He added, “Our health workers are making maximum sacrifices for the country in line with their humanitarian calling, and this administration will leave no stone unturned in order to ensure their needs are met.   Shaykh Dr. Justice Ahmad Lemu, a foremost Islamic scholar and leader, died yesterday, Thursday, 24 th  December, 2020. He was 91.     In a statement issued on Friday, 25 th  December, 2020, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) described him as a great scholar and visionary leader. The statement was signed by the director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.   “We have every reason to mourn the demise of Shaykh Lemu. He was a great scholar and visionary leader. He was kind, transparent and dedicated to the cause of Islam. He was also a great teacher and a role model. FG To Renovate UCH, Upgrade Infrastructures

The Federal Government is to commence a massive renovation of the 63-year old University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan to ensure its total turnaround and better care for its teeming patients UCH’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Toye Akinrinola, said the renovation would start from the last week in December and would be handled through the office of presidency. He added that the renovation would be carried out in phases, starting with the South-East and Central blocks of the hospital. According to him, even the renovation of the critical areas in the hospital would continue till February, 2021; patients would be moved to other wards to ensure the continuation of care even while others would be attended to on out-patient basis.
