The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has faulted the Federal Government offer on the increment of hazard allowance for health workers in the country, describing it as a joke. According to the association, the increment is nothing compared to the hazard faced by health workers in the country. The government had offered to increase the hazard allowance of N5000 for all health workers in its health establishments in the country by 350 percent and 600 percent for junior and senior workers respectively. The Federal Government also agreed to increase the retirement age of doctors and other health workers from 60 to 65 years and 70 years for Consultants.   An Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, to investigate the circumstances that led a Muslim parent to withdraw his daughter from the school after a teacher allegedly harassed the girl.     MURIC’s request was made by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Wednesday, 26 th  May, 2021.     MURIC said, “One of the teachers of the Obafemi Awolowo International School (OAUIS), Mrs. Adeyemo, has allegedly harassed a female Muslim student of the school. The intimidation has made the girl’s parents to withdraw her from the school.     “The girl who was in the habit of using her hijab from home and removing it at the school’s gate (since hijab is not allowed by the school’s authorities) was harassed by Mrs. Adeyemo.   The Nigerian Medical Association says fellowship is the highest academic and professional qualification in human medicine.    The association also restated that Ph.D. is not a prerequisite qualification for the attainment of the Chief Executive position in tertiary institutions.   NMA stated this in a communique issued at the end of its recently concluded Annual General Conference, held in Jos, Plateau State.   The communique was signed by the President of the Association, Prof. Innocent Ujah, and the Secretary-General, Dr. Philips Ekpe.   It said, “The conference reaffirmed that fellowship is the highest academic and professional qualification in human medicine and restated its position that possession of Ph.D. was not a prerequisite qualification for career progression and attainment of the Chief Executive position by Medical Doctors in tertiary institutions including any university in Nigeria.”   NMA also said it is consulting with relevant office...

  Mr. Benjamin Kalu, a spokesman of the House of Representatives, has said cannabis would aid Nigeria’s industrial drive and boost her internally generated revenue (IGR). There is anxiety again brewing at the University of Ibadan, following a move to extend the tenure of the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Adebola Ekanola by the Council. Independent findings by The Precision NG, revealed that the council in a letter to the senate of the institution, stated that the position of the Acting VC, which ends on 31 May, 2021, cannot remain vacant. “Given the circumstance, a vacuum cannot be created in the office of the Vice Chancellor and CEO of the University in that if the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor cannot be concluded before 31 May, 2021, the position of the Ag.
