UI VC Race: Process Suspended Over Crisis

The process for the appointment of the next Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan was on Wednesday afternoon suspended. The suspension is not unconnected from the lockdown of the institution on Wednesday by workers protesting against the alleged plan to impose the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Kayode Adebowale as the next VC. The union also rejected Prof. Olufemi Mimiko, describing him as anti-workers judging by his tenure as VC, Ondo State University, Akungba-Akoko between 2010 and 2015. UI On Total Locked Over Planned Imposition Of Current DVC As Next VC

The University of Ibadan is currently on a total lockdown as workers have taken over the entire premises protesting against the ‘planned imposition of the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Kayode Adebowale as the next Vice-Chancellor.’ This blog  recalls that multiple individuals and unions in the institution have alleged that the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka is ‘putting no stone untouched to ensure the emerged of his anointed candidate, Adebowale.’ The protest by the workers, this blog understands, is not unconnected from the release of the name of the six candidates who made the shortlist out of those jostling for the seat. One of those who names announced was that of Prof. Adebowale. In multiple videos sighted by this reporter, the workers who had blocked all entry and exit into the institution. #ENDSARS: PRAY FOR THE NIGERIAN POLICE – MURIC.

  Sequel to the rage which attended #EndSARS protests and attacks on police stations and police personnel in the past two weeks, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has called on Nigerian Muslims to pray for the police and members of their families. The group also appealed to leaders of the Police Community Relations Committee to mobilise their members as well as people living around police stations to rise in defence of police buildings and personnel in order to prevent further attacks.     The organisation’s plea was circulated on Wednesday 28 th  October, 2020 by its Director and Founder, Professor Ishaq Akintola.     The statement reads:   “Several police stations are now in ruins particularly in Lagos and other parts of the South West, South East and South South as a result of attacks by hoodlums who infiltrated the #EndSARS protests. The race to becoming the 13th Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan is gradually coming to a climax as Six aspirants have now been shortlisted from the initial 18 who applied for the position.   This blog gathered that the Six aspirants would now face the screening panel led by the chairman of council of the University, NDE Joshua Waklek and Four others on Wednesday October 28. Oyo State Govt Orders Employment of 5,000 Youths, Earmarks N500m For MSMEs

The Oyo State government has ordered the employment of 5,000 youths in the state into various government agencies. The state governor, Seyi Makinde made this announcement on Monday during a stakeholder meeting with traditional rulers, security chiefs, religious leaders, and chairmen of the 68 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas. He said the 5,000 youths will be employed across the state Ministries, Departments, and Agencies including OSRMA and OYOWMA. “I have directed the employment of 5,000 young persons across all government agencies over the next few months. “We have been talking to Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OSRMA), Oyo State Waste Management Authority (OYOWMA), before now. We have been talking to AMOTEKUN. We have to, immediately, wrap some of those recruitments up and put these people off the street. #ENDSARS: MURIC SEEKS COMPENSATION FOR IGBO MUSLIM VICTIMS, TO REPORT WIKE TO ICC

            The Nigerian Islamic human rights organization has berated the killing of 11 (eleven) Muslims of Igbo extraction in the South East and South South during the #EndSARS protests. The group also condemned the burning of Orlu Central Mosque as well as attacks on other mosques in the two sub-regions.     The condemnation was contained in a press statement circulated to pressmen on Monday, 26 th  October, 2020 by the Director and Founder of the organization, Professor Ishaq Akintola.     MURIC said, “We are shocked by news of mob attacks on Muslims of Igbo origin in the South East and South South during the #EndSARS demonstrations. At least 11 (eleven) Muslims were killed: 1 (one) in the South East and 10 (ten) in the South South. They were killed for no other reason than for being Muslims. UI VC Race: Selection Process Set To Commence

The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan will discuss the report of the controversial Senate meeting that the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Prof. Idowu Olayinka chaired. AIBNETWORK  recalls that the Senate meeting which was held earlier this month looked into the petitions against the election of two new members of the Joint Senate selection committee . However, AIBNETWORK  gathered that the meeting of the Governing Council will most likely not stop the selection process of the next Vice-Chancellor which will commence with an interview on Tuesday, October 27. Six of the 18 candidates are expected to be shortlisted after the meeting of Council with the aspirants on October 27. The shortlisted candidates are expected to meet with the Selection Board on October 28, after which the report of the interview with Selection Board will be considered at a Council meeting slated for October 28. By November, a new Vice Chancellor will emerge and resume office on the 1st of December .

#ENDSARS: Makinde Reopens Oyo Schools

The Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has directed schools in Ibadan, the state capital, to resume normal academic activities from tomorrow, Monday, 26th October, 2020. The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, who made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, said that the directive followed a review of the situation in Ibadan metropolis as earlier promised by the governor in a state broadcast. Security Beefed Up At UCH Ibadan Over Planned Attack By Hoodlums

  The management of the University College Hospital, UCH Ibadan, has beefed up security around the medical facility. This, according to the institution’s spokesperson, Toye Akinrinlola, became necessary following the planned attack on UCH by hoodlums. IBNET  recalls that hoodlums have been looting private and public valuables since last week due to the aftermath of the campaign against police brutality which was not properly managed. Our attention has been drawn to the plans by suspected hoodlums to attack the University College Hospital,Ibadan. This is also as the Federal Ministry of Health has alerted all Teaching Hospitals, Federal Medical Centres, Specialist Hospitals and other tertiary hospitals in Nigeria of the plans to attack them.
