Pre-Ramadan message to DSTV /GOTV

PRE-RAMADAN MESSAGE TO DSTV /GOTV

By: Ibrahim Agunbiade HumbledIbn

23rd Sha'aban, 1441AH (17th April, 2020)

Just last year 2019, Hijra 1440 Ramadan, my attention was drawn to a message circulating on social media telling Nigerian Muslims that DSTV and GOTV has added another Islamic channel called Ummah TV on their channel list.

The message concisely gave details as DSTV Channel 345 & GOTV Channel 28 and described the channel as a home grown (Naija), quality, educating and entertaining Ramadan pop-up channel, (I wonder what entertainment is in Ramadan). That it will be on air from 2nd of May till 4th of June, 2019.

The message went further to explain that the channel is a 24/7 to watch throughout this year’s Ramadan 1440AH/2019AD. It further requested readers who received such message to spread it across the Ummah. Many people did.

It further prayed that may Allah SWT reward the brains behind Ummah TV, accept their efforts and bless all Muslims.

On checking my decoder for confirmation I noticed Gotv lite can not even cover the one month pop up said Ummah TV for Ramadan, I immediately switched back to channel 81 Islam Channel, even though it doesn't really meet my local need of Islamic content based channel and the report I later got about the unwatched Ummah TV wasn't satisfied either, may Allah reward both founders abundantly.

Ummah TV came only for the purpose of Ramadan on DSTV /GOTV, when some Islamic TV stations were thinking of going off during the period of Ramadan and revive after Ramadan, just for ummah to focus on the purpose of the blessed month.

I have been watching Islam channel on Gotv channel 81 for some times and I must confess that during Ramadan the experience has been quite rewarding.

My Humble advice for DSTV /GOTV is to look out of content and bring in more Islamic digital channels like Huda TV, AcadipTv, PeaceTV, Sunnah TV, Saudi Arabian Haramain channels showing the five daily Salat, Taraaweeh and Tahajjud prayers, Iqraa TV (English) with a view of providing its many Muslim customers with more Islamic content channels and options. We won’t be asking for too much by that I am sure.

After installing these channels on your platform you may also conduct a simple market survey and see how many more Muslims have subscribed for your new decoders or reactivated their old decoders or even resuscitated their subscription simply because of those precious channels. The outcome of such simple survey will surely encourage you to do more for the Nigerian Muslim Ummah.

I hope you will look into this appeal by taking necessary steps in serving us better. The more you provide us with channels covering our areas of interest the more we patronise you.
