Ogbomoso Under Siege: PAI Blasts Rising Insecurity in Oyo, Demands Immediate Action from Makinde
The (PAI) has raised serious concerns over the worsening security situation in following recent deadly attacks and kidnappings around Ogbomoso and other parts of the state, warning that “silence must not become complicity.”
In a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday, the group described the recent wave of violence along the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis of Oriire Local Government Area as a dangerous signal that insecurity has firmly taken root in the South-West.
The statement, signed by PAI Chairman, , and General Secretary, , expressed deep sympathy with victims and families affected by the attacks.
According to the group, the worsening situation in Ogbomoso should serve as a wake-up call to both the Government and the wider South-West region.
“The wolf is no longer at the gate — it is already inside the compound,” the statement read.
PAI lamented that many Nigerians once treated insecurity in Northern Nigeria and parts of the Middle Belt as distant crises until violence gradually spread into other regions of the country.
The group specifically referenced the attack of Friday, May 15, 2026, during which armed men reportedly invaded schools along the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis in Oriire Local Government Area, abducting several persons and throwing communities into fear.
The organization described the killing of a mathematics teacher, Mr. Oyedokun Michael, during the incident as a tragic reflection of the country’s deteriorating security climate.
According to PAI, the circulation of videos allegedly showing the killing further exposed the intention of perpetrators to spread fear and psychological terror across communities.
The group also cited another kidnapping incident involving two staff members of the (CRIN), who were reportedly abducted around Alomaja village, Idi-Ayunre, along the Ijebu-Ode road on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
“These repeated attacks within such a short span are not isolated incidents; they point to a disturbing pattern that can no longer be ignored or downplayed,” the statement added.
PAI criticized what it described as the slow and inadequate response of authorities, insisting that security must go beyond condolences and press statements.
The group called on Governor to provide explanations regarding the reported acquisition of two Diamond DA 42 MNG surveillance helicopters allegedly purchased at a cost of ₦7.7 billion.
According to the organization, residents of affected communities have neither seen nor felt the impact of the surveillance aircraft despite rising insecurity in vulnerable areas.
“If these assets exist, why are they not actively deployed over Ogbomoso and other hotspot areas?” the group queried.
PAI further demanded greater transparency in the management of security votes and called for the strengthening of grassroots security architecture across the state.
The organization urged government to properly equip and coordinate local security formations including , vigilante groups, Soluderos, (OPC), Agbekoya groups, forest rangers, and other community-based security networks.
The group also advocated the immediate establishment of a unified rapid-response command structure involving the police, military, civil defense, Amotekun, and local security groups to improve operational coordination and emergency response.
PAI additionally called for an independent and time-bound investigation into the recent school abductions and related security breaches across the state, insisting that perpetrators must be apprehended and prosecuted.
The organization stressed the need for reliable public security communication systems, especially in rural communities, warning that citizens should not depend on rumours and social media speculation during emergencies.
It also urged authorities to review intelligence operations across rural corridors and forest areas in the state, noting that the threats evolved gradually due to lapses in surveillance and oversight.
“The responsibility of government is not symbolic; it is protective. When that protection fails, trust collapses,” the statement concluded.
PAI, however, urged residents of Ogbomoso and the wider to remain vigilant, united, and committed to demanding accountability from leadership.
