Seven nurses, two doctors and two patients have reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 at the Jericho Specialist Hospital in Ibadan, IBNET can exclusively report
A source in the hospital who preferred to remain anonymous told this blog that the COVID-19 scare in the hospital started when two patients at the hospital tested positive.
This, the source added, prompted many nurses and doctors to go for COVID-19 testing.
When the result came out, seven nurses and two doctors in the hospital had to go into isolation because they had contracted the virus.
However, the source maintained that the result of one of the first doctors who treated one of the two patients who tested positive at the hospital came back negative.
The source stressed that the doctor who tested negative, despite treating one of the COVID-19 patients, had contact with the patient who was later confirmed positive.
“In fact NCDC has evacuated the positive patient on admission to Olodo centre, yesterday. All the patients at hospital have also been discharged. What normally happens is that whenever a patient is tested positive, the hospital is fumigated immediately he or she is evacuated. The bureaucracy in the civil service is slowing that things. Health workers at the facility are at high risk. It is advisable government goes there for full fumigation of the hospital, to forstall problem,” another source added.
In a chat with us, the EOC, Dr. Taiwo Olabode Ladipo EOC, who is the incident manager in the state, confirmed the story, adding that it has been happening all over.
“That has been happening all over. People have been sick and they go to hospitals, infecting health officials in the process. It has happened at the University College Hospital, UCH, Adeoyo and others too.
“The affected ward has been shut while the officials have been given time off work to isolate themselves.
“The ward would be back after being fumigated,” he added.
