Amid the lockdown of tertiary institutions to curtain the spread of COVID-19, the Technical University, Ibadan has completed its semester examination online and resumed for the second semester.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, who revealed this in a statement to newsmen, explained that the University enjoyed the benefit of it’s digitised system which had been in place since 2017.

The VC also revealed that as soon as the students were sent home in March , in line with the government ’ s directive that all schools be closed , Tech – U strengthened its e – lecture platform , adding that the process was seamless .

“The lectures continued online in April through May. There wasn ’ t much problem because both the lecturers and students are used to the process . We run on Moodle as our learning management system , with the smart boards that make the delivery and feedback integrated.

“Of course, there were bound to be some hitches at the beginning, as the students were now scattered in different parts of the country, with attendant challenges of phone network and power supply. But as time went on , most of them found a way around the issues.

“First, we had a mock examination to prepare the students and validate the process itself . Then , we had the exam , with over 90 per cent of students participating. We conducted a supplementary exam to accommodate those who missed the exam or part of it for one reason or the other , ” Salami said.
