On the 30th of November, the five-year single-term tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka will come to an end.

A new don is expected to take over the helm of the affairs of the premier University on the 1st of December, 2020.

Even though tertiary institutions across the country – including the Universiy of Ibadan – are currently on a lockdown due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the contenders and pretenders for the most revered seat in the ivory tower have started underground mobilization of support from relevant stakeholders.

However, in an opinion poll created by Olusegun Michael Ogundele on the official group of the University of Ibadan students union to know who they prefer to get selected by the Governing Council as the next vice-chancellor of the institution, Professor Remi Raji-Oyelade of the department of English currently leads the pack.

AIBNETWORK.BLOGSPOT.COM understands that students have little or no say in the selection of who becomes VC in Nigerian universities.

As at the time of writing this report, Raji, a former dean of the Faculty of Arts, had polled 201 votes out of a possible 494 votes.

At a distant second is an immediate past deputy vice-chancellor, DVC, Professor Adeyinka Abideen Aderinto, of the department of sociology who had polled 106 votes.

An incumbent DVC, Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale of the department of chemistry and Professor Clement Olusegun Olaniran Kolawole of the faculty of arts and social sciences are 3rd and 4th with 49 and 41 votes respectively.

Others are: Professor Tal-hatu Kolapo Hamzat, 39 votes; Professor OluyemisiBamgbose, 21 votes; Professor Temitope Alonge, 17 votes; Professor George Olusegun, 15 votes and Professor Emiola Olapade Olaopa, 5 votes.

The opinion poll was created at exactly 10 am on the 15th of July.
